Not bad. Not bad at all.

Freeing Asia - E.M. Abel

I'm not really a fan of love triangles or characters with low self-esteem who get magically delicious makeovers, and this book had both (kind of... not really) and then some.  However, the author managed to hook me in after the first few chapters of me thinking "Oh, God, I hope this gets better" since it started with a lot of telling not showing.  In the context of all these tropes, the foundation of the story is actually the journey to self discovery the main character goes through.  There's a nice mix of humor, sweet, hot as hell, and throat tightening moments throughout the story.  After all the duds I've been reading, this book was a welcome change from the sea of underdeveloped characters and underdeveloped plots I've been doggy paddling through.  I will be keeping an eye out for the next book from this author.

Thanks for the rec, Miss!
